At Villa del Monte Mutual Water Company, our goal is to provide safe, clean, sparkling water to all of our residents. We are a mutual water company with 125 members in the Villa del Monte neighborhood. We have two sources of water: Laurel Creek & San Jose Water Company. Our water rights to Laurel Creek have been in place for more than 50 years! Since this is surface water, in years of moderate or light rainfall, the creek dries up starting around August and we supplement with purchased water from the San Jose Water Company. We are in a unique position in the mountains with our two sources of water!
After the Loma Prieta earthquake we established a connection at Redwood Mutual Water Company to what is now San Jose Water Company (SJWC). The source of water for this connection is also surface water, but because SJWC has Lake Elsman as a reservoir, the water is available throughout the year. The water is treated at their Montevina Treatment Plant above Lexington Reservoir. The Montevina pipeline serves Redwood Estates, the Villa del Monte Water Company, and eight other mutual water companies in both counties of the Santa Cruz mountains.
